When I decided to start writing novels, I mean seriously start writing them and not just occasionally playing with a story idea, it had been AGES since my undergraduate creative writing courses. English degree or not, I knew I needed a refresher.

Thus began what became an odyssey of trying to find an actually useful writing course.

You know, one that would teach me something about the art of crafting a great novel, developing my own writing voice, and avoid the pile of archaic rules that made English so boring in high school.

I never found it.

Seriously! Most of the courses I took or perused consisted of the teacher handing out a few photocopied pages. On a good day, she might actually go over the highlights of the material she just passed around. But mostly, the class would immediately jump into each student reading a passage and the other students critiquing what they liked and didn’t. All without actually talking about what good writing really was.

It was horrible.

But it actually taught me a lot. I got so frustrated when one student was praised for using an adverb that I was ripped apart for having dared to write that it made me research the rules, pull apart some of my favorite writer’s work to see how they wrote, delve into popular trends for POV, and learn how to develop character voice to capture deep POV. I was so excited about what I discovered that I started blogging about it!

Fast forward a few years and a handful of books later along with a marketing course and I realized I still hadn’t found that writing course I was looking for. But I could create it.

That is how my premium writing course, the Ultimate Fantasy Writer’s Guide, came to be. It was released after a lot of work this spring and up until now I followed all the advice to only open the doors to enrollment in short open windows with no payment plan and never EVER break it up into shorter courses.

If there is one thing I’ve learned about myself it is that I tend to take advice and pull it apart to find what is actually useful in it. Sort of like when someone complains about your adverb use but not someone else’s. 😉

Keeping the course closed 90% of the time serves me and not you. And, frankly, I think this world has way too much exclusivity. And keeping it all bundled into one mega-course might be the best way to take it, but it doesn’t help YOU if you are looking for help with a specific topic.

So I’m throwing the “proven” technique out the window.

The Ultimate Fantasy Writer’s Guide is now open and waiting for you whenever you are ready for it. And now you can get it as a half course or by individual modules to get exactly the help you need for your writing NOW!

And to celebrate, I’m holding a giveaway!

10 lucky winners will be selected to win a module of THEIR CHOICE of the Ultimate Fantasy Writer’s Guide. This is BIG! You can choose to target idea development, focus on specific aspects of writing (like the mushy middle) that trouble you, learn to edit like a pro, grab the module on formatting and covers to access the templates, or hone your book launch and marketing skills. The choice is yours… if you win, of course!

Or you can simply enroll in the Guide. 😉

The giveaway runs from September 1 – 15. Share the lucky url you receive when you enter and if anyone follows your link and enters, you’ll get three more chances to win.

Good luck in the giveaway! What is the one thing you wish you could improve about your writing or book marketing right now? Let me know in the comments!
